Meet the artist

Creating art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

Sewing was my first love and being curled up on the sofa with a cross-stitch kit is a pleasant childhood memory!

Painting was set aside after college when I co-founded a clothes making business but it soon returned when the desire came to express my thoughts and feelings in paint. Early works were filled with text and line drawings, I wasn't familiar with intuitive painting at the time but I instinctively knew that I was finding my direction.

My work is created through layers of paint, collage and textiles, returning to hand embroidery when I want to slow things down.

I find interesting lines in everyday objects, vases and jars, spindles on a chair back or the trailing leaves from plants which fill my studio. I rarely have the desire to create a direct translation of the object, only to capture parts which interest me. For me, a line which is drawn from life holds a greater sense of aliveness than one which is drawn from my imagination.

I take the painted lines and work intuitively to draw connections, forming organic shapes and compositions.
